The climate team at Greenpeace has just notified me that Congressman Fitzpatrick
has agreed to co-sponsor the Safe Climate Act of 2006. For those of you who came
to the event on Thursday, this is the bill we brought to his office and asked
him to support. Fitzpatrick has shown tremendous leadership by breaking from his
party on this issue. While he still needs to officially follow up with his
commitment (we will know for sure very shortly), this is a major victory for us!
Many national groups have been pushing him on this legislation... but because of
our work his district director saw the actual faces of concerned citizens (and
voters!) willing to visit his office on a Thursday afternoon to demand action to
stop global warming.
That's the power of citizen activism! Great work everyone!
