1. Interesting Reiki Stories:
Reiki Heals Chemical Burns by Mike Willett from www.reiki.org
This story is for all Doubting Thomases of the divinity of Reiki. In December, 1997 I was working with a liquid in my lab at a chemical company that reached 550 degrees F. and it blew up in my face. I stepped under the safety shower. The liquid covered my face, neck, chest and left arm. I ran to the mirror to see skin sliding down my face and my lips were white and cracking. I was rushed to the hospital where they applied only cold compresses and later antibiotics. The doctor reported second and third degree burns on my face and neck. I went home and looked in the mirror and asked God not to leave me looking like this.
I had received Reiki I & II in 1989. I started to apply Reiki on my face, and used it several times during the day for the entire week prior to my return visit to the hospital. I returned with no noticeable scars or discoloration to my face. I did not even have the typical pinkness of the new skin that accompanies a burn.
In April of 1998 I became a Reiki Master myself. I thank God for intervening and all my Reiki guides that have helped me to realize that intent and prayer can carry you beyond physical boundaries.

2. Requests for Long Distance Healing: Requests for Long Distance Healing: When there are several requests, in our small way, we can participate by adding each individual to our prayer list or to send long distance Reiki. Please consider printing out these requests so you can remember these people over this next month.
If you make a request for long distance healing, it would be helpful if you could provide us with some feedback on how the person is doing after a period of time.
Remember if there are multiple requests, you can use the stack method of sending long distance Reiki. One suggestion would be: When time permits-- send long distance Reiki f or one specific request, then add that request to an on-going list or stack that receives unlimited Reiki.
Level I Practitioners: You can participate in the Long Distance Requests by adding the individuals to your prayer list or send positive thoughts and intentions.
Long Distance Requests Submitted by Practitioners:
The Long Courageous Battle has Reached Completion... It is with such deep, heartfelt sadness that I share the news of Kelly Pomrinke's passing. For those who have been regularly assisting with long distance Reiki requests, your are aware that Kelly has been on this list for a long time. Please see this month's spotlight, A Tribute to Kelly.
Kelly passed on Friday November 24 while at the University of Penn hospital receiving treatment for leukemia. I now ask that you send along prayers/Reiki to her husband Jon and their young 2 year old daughter, Kira. With much appreciation and gratitude, for your thoughts and prayers...Susan
Feedback from Pat S... Last month Pat requested long distance reiki for her dog Mya, who was hit in a hit and run accident... here is the update:
This Thanksgiving I'm very thankful for all the prayers, healing energy, & veterinary care that continues to be offered to my dog after a hit & run. She is making great progress, healing quickly, & captured the hearts of all she met. I will say that, during her 2 wk. stay at the veterinary clinic, there was LDR early on & daily visits consisting mostly of hour long Reiki sessions where she would fall asleep for much of my time there. Since she's been home these 2 wks, my Reiki time with her has greatly lessened, but her recovery continues on through vet.visits every 2 days for wound flushing. The Friday after Thanksgiving may be her last visit if all goes well.
Request from Beth S: Susan, I have a long distance request. A member of my board, her husband was just diagnosed with throat cancer. I don’t know his name, you could just say father of 3 from Doylestown. This is a real shocker for the family… they got the news last week. Thanks for any help you can send their way.

3. Q & A
QUESTION: I am enjoying learning Reiki, I really like coming to class and I definitely feel the benefits when I give myself or my husband a treatment, but I am also feeling an unexpected resistance like I shouldn't be doing this...has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?
ANSWER: When anyone receive a Reiki attunement, they are usually told about a 21 day Reiki cleansing process. This is a time of change, detoxification and integration of the energies. This cleansing process does not just happen when we take Reiki but may occur during any major shift in our life. An example might be a divorce, we are going to change and grow in many ways but in order to do that we must let go of the old and embrace the new. It is the same with Reiki, we must let go of the old mental, emotional, physical and spiritual stuff we don't need to make room for our new higher level energy vibration.
Listed below are some things you may experience during a Reiki cleansing process after each Reiki attunement or Reiki treatment and the remedies for each. If you are experiencing worrying symptoms please contact your Reiki Master who can be reassuring.
Note: Not everyone notices symptoms after a treatment or attunement. Reiki works on all levels: emotional, mental, spiritual and physical, if a physical complaint doesn’t get better right away, the energy is working on levels other than the physical. If one finds they are having symptoms a positive attitude toward the change you are going through will help.
There is no area of life that Reiki will not change and effect. It brings healing as a result of raising your vibration or energy levels into balance. It will work at healing relationships, assist bringing goals and desires into manifestation and heal and balance anything in the past and present.
During the 21 day cleansing process the first cycle of seven days is said to be focused on personal issues, physical and emotional development. The second week focuses on relationships, community issues and mental integration. The third week is centered on spiritual change.
The Cleansing Process:
Physical Purification Flu-like symptoms may be experienced, minor discomforts include: achy muscles, fever, headache, sore throat, excessive mucus, coughing, constipation, diarrhea and other minor symptoms as toxins are released and your body is cleansed and balanced.
To lessen effects: take long walks in country settings, exercise the entire body mildly or do yoga, breath clean fresh air and drink lots of pure fresh water. Eat light nourishing meals, which include fresh fruit, vegetables and juices. Try to stay away from caffeine, nicotine.
Emotional Purification Deeply held emotions may surface for no apparent reason: anger, frustration, grief, fear sadness and others. These emotions have been repressed or suppressed from earlier times, this life and past, they are being released. Do not allow yourself to become emotionally effected by what you experience. Do not place blame on anyone or anything for these feelings. Just experience them as they surface and let them go.
To lesson effects: meditate, breathing in and out gently. Take a long hot bath in Epsom salt and sea salt. Soak about 1/2 hr. This will relax you.
Mental Purification Old thought forms, behavior patterns and habits may come to the surface. Addictive desires for food, beverage, nicotine, caffeine, alcohol etc. may increase or resurface. Thoughts of judgment, blame, victimization, abuse, denial, self-destruction, self-pity etc may happen. These issues are being healed on every level of your being, from this lifetime and others. Do not be hard on yourself or allow these impulses and thoughts to get the better of you. Acknowledge them; let them go, then change your thoughts willfully to those of a more positive nature.
To lessen the effects: Be kind to yourself, do things that make you feel good, repeat positive affirmations, mantras, and listening to your favorite music eases the intensity of the potentially negative effects of the thoughts.
Spiritual Purification Your beliefs may be shaken and challenged, beliefs in how the world operates, how relationships should be, religion, what is important to your life. As this occurs, insights, revelations and new understanding will become clear; these will be the building blocks of your newly forming and ever changing spiritual foundation.
To lessen the effects: Talk to like minded people about your experiences, read uplifting spiritual books, listen to motivational tapes and treat yourself with love and kindness. You are gaining new levels of understanding. Know that all is well and this process is perfectly normal. Be at peace. Let go and let God move through you.

The Healing Consciousness Book by Dr.Beth DuPree I have not yet read the book but have heard it mentioned and recommended by a few different people.
From her website: Dr. Beth DuPree has performed surgery on thousands of patients. The personal and energetic connection she shares with her patients is as important to their healing process as the surgery she performs. Her focus as a physician has shifted from one based solely in Western Medicine to one that combines the wisdom of Eastern Medicine with state of the art Western Medicine technology.
“I recommend this book for health care professionals, physicians and medical students to help find their way to healing themselves and their patients.” Bernie Siegel, M.D., Author of Love Medicine & Miracles
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Healing Consciousness Foundation to support healing services for breast cancer patients.

7. Working with Others:
Keeping Oneself Clear: Not Taking on Another's Symptoms Source: William Rand
Since Reiki is a channeled form of healing, the practitioner is not using their own energy and because the Reiki energy is guided by the "Higher Power," it is very unlikely that a practitioner will absorb any of the client's negative energy during a Reiki session. In fact, in the early days of Reiki in the West, it was stated that this could not happen. Yet, it has become clear to me and to other Reiki teachers and practitioners I have spoken with that occasionally a practitioner can have the experience of absorbing a portion of the client's pain or other symptoms. In other cases, a practitioner feels drained after a Reiki session. This experience is rare, but when it does happen, it can be uncomfortable for the practitioner. In some cases, the experience is so pronounced that they consider discontinuing the practice of Reiki. So, although it is not happening to many practitioners, the fact that it is happening to some is reason enough to understand why this sort of thing takes place and learn how to prevent it.
If you or any of your Reiki friends or students have experienced these situations, I suggest that you consider the following solutions. Nothing can happen to us unless we create it for ourselves on some level of our being. Seeking the cause of a situation within oneself opens the door to greater self-understanding and the possibility for deep healing. When a practitioner takes on a client's negative energy during a healing session or feels drained afterwards, it is usually due to something that the practitioner is doing energetically within the self, either consciously or unconsciously, to allow this to happen. There is usually a misunderstanding or a misalignment of energy within the practitioner’s energy field that invites the client's symptoms in. If practitioners have an unbalanced personal interest concerning the client or the Reiki session, either conscious or unconscious, they open themselves to having their energy drained or to taking on the client's symptoms.
Here are a few examples of what could be going on for some: The practitioner may have an unhealthy interest in "curing" the client. Or they may feel that in order to be "OK" as a healer, they must produce specific results. On some level of consciousness, the practitioner is willing to take on the client's pain or illness or give up some personal energy in exchange for being considered an effective healer. A practitioner who is working on a friend or relative may have a specific outcome they are desperately seeking because of the role that person plays in their life. Thus, a practitioner may also become open to taking on the client's symptoms as a way of helping the client achieve the desired results. Furthermore, a practitioner may have strong feelings of guilt and may feel that they deserve to be punished or restricted in some way. On an unconscious level, they invite the client's negative energy into their energy field as a way of self-punishment, and may also feel drained afterwards.
These tendencies usually arise from unconscious parts of the personality. These unconscious segments are usually attempting to produce a positive result, but in an unhealthy way. It is through the pathway of one's unhealthy personal energy and intentions toward the client that the symptoms of the client travel back into the practitioner's energy field. The practitioner is usually not aware of creating this and feels only the negative symptoms received with no clear explanation.
There are several things that can be done to remedy this situation. As a basis for administering Reiki treatments, it is important for the practitioner to always keep in mind the need to allow the Reiki energy to perform all of the healing work. To do this, one must set one's personal energies aside and get out of the way. Saying a prayer before beginning a treatment can help accomplish this. For example: "I ask that my personal energies be set aside so Reiki can flow in abundance."
Another level of help involves the use of the Usui power symbol and affirmations. Before beginning a treatment, draw the power symbol on the palms of each hand. In addition, draw a large power symbol down the front of your body and small power symbols on each chakra. As you do this, intend that doing so will prevent the client's symptoms from entering your energy field while leaving your own energy intact. Then to yourself, in a very certain and definite manner, repeat an affirmation such as this: "I choose not to take on the client's negative energy." Repeat these words several times before beginning the session.
The above methods are useful and will produce immediate results. However, the most effective way to deal with this problem is for the practitioner to focus on the part or parts of the self that is giving away energy or taking on the client's symptoms and heal that part. This can be done using various Reiki techniques including regular Reiki, the Healing Attunement, and Aura Clearing (Psychic Surgery).
These three methods work best when done both as a self- treatment and by receiving treatment from another practitioner. These are powerful methods especially the third, and are likely to be accompanied by other changes in the practitioner's life involving how one takes care of oneself and relates to others. Once healed, the practitioner will be much stronger and will not have to deal with this problem again.

9. Tips & Tidbits:
60 Ways to Heal Your Life… From Lynda Field’s book Each month one of Lynda’s suggestion is included:
Suggestion 11: Celebrate Your Aloneness You are unique. There is no such thing as a normal or average size or type of person. Everyone is absolutely special and individual. When we recognize our uniqueness we also recognize our aloneness. Sometimes our aloneness can be very scary. We may feel lonely because no one can really understand how we feel and always "be there" for us. It is true that no one will ever know the inner you. You are the only person who can know yourself. No one else can be inside you. And would your really want anyone to know everything about you?
This idea of our aloneness also carries a wonderful quality of freedom. We can release our expectations of other people to know all about us and we can stop feeling guilty about not always "being there" for others.
Frightening or freeing-- your aloneness can be either of these things. Choose freedom, choose to celebrate your aloneness. Repeat the following affirmation which will help you to accept and enjoy the inevitability of feeling alone
Affirmation: I am sitting on top of the world and I belong to nobody and nobody belongs to me.
As you say this affirmation use your imagination and visualize yourself at the top of the world feeling free. Feel the freedom which comes with these words. When we are truly free to be ourselves all our relationships improve and we feel wonderful
Next Month: Re-Invent Yourself
Inspirational Story: The Echo of Life A son and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, the son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" Curious, he yells: "Who are you?" He receives the answer: "Who are you?" Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!" He receives the answer: "Coward!" He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?" The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!" The voice answers: "I admire you!" Again the man screams: "You are a champion!" The voice answers: "You are a champion!" The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it. YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU! - Author Unknown
