1. Interesting Reiki Stories:
Reiki stories are posted as a way to help keep us inspired and to remember to use Reiki as a tool in healing. If you have an experience or story to share, please forward it to us, otherwise I will try to post a story or two monthly that I find on the web.
Using Reiki with Chronic Kidney Disease My name is Rob Gaydos and i have C.K.D.,,aka chronic kidney disease. As you probably know ,your kidneys play a major role in filtering the body's wastes. I was diagnosed about three years ago, after a routine blood test revealed a high Creatinine count. Creatinine is a waste by-product produced by the kidneys. The average person has a creatinine level of 0.02-5...my level was 3.2...an indication of kidney failure.
Now,the magic number for total kidney failure is 7.0, that means Kidney dialysis. Unfortunately or more, foolish of me, i put off going to the doctors. I sort of denied it. I reasoned that if it took all my life to get to that point, it would take many, many years to reach total failure...i was wrong !
Once reaching that level of 3.2, the condition starts to snowball towards failure! After more than a year since diagnosed with c.k.d, I went for another blood test to see where I stood.. the test came back 4.3...I could no longer deny this. So i went to a Nephrologist kidney doctor,,,,and began treatment.
I will never forget the first time i went to the kidney clinic. The waiting room was comprised entirely of elderly people, clearly with multiple problems. i, being 41 yrs old at the time,,stood out! Right from the beginning, my mentality was "I don't belong here" Looking back I didn't realize my defiant attitude would play an important part of my treatment.
Treatment,by the way of conventional medicine, simply meant drugs and diet. Now there happened to be a dialysis room there at the clinic so curiosity got the best of me and I took a peek in! What i saw jolted me! Two rows of beds, about 10 per row, all filled with elderly people who looked like they've been to hell and back. If you don't know,,,a dialysis machine draws your blood out, its then filtered through the machine and returns it back to your body cleansed. The process is done 3 days a week: Monday,Wednesday, Friday--,5 hours each day, it leaves the patient feeling drained of energy, usually.
Well at the sight of that I thought "there is no way I am doing that"!!! I will do whatever it takes to stay out of there! So i dutifully followed the Drs orders and took my pills and watched my diet, and signed up for a kidney transplant. However I fell into a depression. The treatment wasn't intended to stop kidney failure just slow down the inevitable. Nothing was going to Stop my kidneys from falling, and this was depressing.
I was recently divorced, my condition had a hand in that, and I was working two jobs to survive. Things were not looking good for year. So I started praying,,,something I haven't done for about 7 years. I delved into books of spiritual nature and content, looking for a positive outlook on life. I even went to therapy for help.
I go every 3 months for blood work and every month the creatinine level goes up. Not much,,usually a point, but always up. Now I was always "energy sensitive", and a few years prior I had looked into Reiki and had a respect for it, but didn't embrace it at the time. Then in June 2007 I felt the time was right to look into it again, after all reiki is about healing. So i simply "googled reiki masters in pa" and had a list to choose from. After perusing some names, Susan Anderson and her Seeds for Change appealed to me! So I studied Reiki Level 1 and found it had wonderful possibilities!
The first few weeks after attunements, found me fascinated with rediscovery, both of myself and this world,,our universe! Really I am still going through this process. I've learned how to channel energy through touch and take an active role in treating my c.k.d.! Since i've studied with Susan, I've had two blood tests since becoming a reiki practioner..Before i went to Susan my cretinine level was 4.5,,,now its at 3.8!!
I give myself a reiki treatment almost every day for at least 30 minutes. My sessions are ever evolving and taking more dimension and depth! I presently incorporate visualization, crystals, jade and mantra's into each session. After which I have a deep satisfaction of knowing I am taking a proactive approach to my condition thats its actually working. Reiki is one of the best things that i have discovered in this life..its rewards are really amazing!! Sincerely, Rob G
Comment from Susan: This is such a powerful story illustrating the need to empower ourselves, and once we do, we are firmer ground. One thing that Rob had mentioned to me in previous conversations is that the cretinine levels he was referring to do not go down...they may slow down, but they do not reverse. This is an amazing testimony to Rob's work on himself and using the healing power of Reiki to bring about positive change.
Many who know me, have heard me tell this story numerous times....about 15 years ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the doctor told me it was a degenerative disease and would only get progressively worse. I was handed a few prescriptions, and an appointment was made to come back to see my doctor in 1 month. I walked out of that office, and committed a very defiant act, I tore up the prescriptions and declared to the universe..."I don't do rheumatoid arthritis, not in the realm of things that will be part of my life." Didn't know what I was going to do, but the answer arrived a few days later, I worked using a natural, holistic remedy and within 1 week's time I had no remaining symptoms left. Prior to that I was in bed, with every joint in my body inflamed and extremely painful. I do not have RA. Could it be that when we take the power of control, with our mind, body and spirit, we have the ability to create our own miracles? I think so...my experience and Rob's are good indicators.

2. Requests for Long Distance Healing:
Requests for Long Distance Healing: When there are several requests, in our small way, we can participate by adding each individual to our prayer list or to send long distance Reiki. Please consider printing out these requests so you can remember these people over this next month.
If you make a request for long distance healing, it would be helpful if you could provide us with some feedback on how the person is doing after a period of time.Remember if there are multiple requests, you can use the stack method of sending long distance Reiki. One suggestion would be: When time permits-- send long distance Reiki for one specific request, then add that request to an on-going list or stack that receives unlimited Reiki.
Level I Practitioners: You can participate in the Long Distance Requests by adding the individuals to your prayer list or send positive thoughts and intentions.
Prayers for Transtion from Susan On Nov 12, our dear friend and teacher Slim Spurling passed. Please send prayers to his wife Katarina and to Slim that he may continue to assist us in the work of healing the environment from where he is.
Request from Karen S. Please continue to send long distance reiki to my parents: John and Anna Kulasa, Michigan. They are in their 90’s and are having multiple health issues – kidney, gastro, heart, memory. I would appreciate any help in making them more comfortable. Thanks. Karen
Request from Pam FR Please send long distance reiki for the following people: My mum, Doris Smith, of Perkasie, who continues to have problems with peripheral neuropathy. She has been in so much pain, despite medications, that she has been confined to bed.
Tim Lyons who will be undergoing surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer. Please send LDR to Tim, his surgeons, family and care-givers
Bert Fendt who is sufffering severely with sarcoidosis and a sinus infection. He also just lost his mother with heart problems. Please send LDR for the Fendt family in CT.
This section will be updated as requests come in, if you have a request for Long Distance Reiki, email it to seedsforchange@comcast.net, title the request Long Distance Reiki

3. Q & A
QUESTION: What are some of the questions one should ask when looking for a Reiki teacher to take classes with?
ANSWER: There are a number of questions you may wish to ask the reiki teacher you are interviewing regarding their teaching. I have listed some of them below: - Do you teach the traditional Usui method, or other approaches? - What is the maximum number of students you will have in a class? - Do you do private instruction? - How do you structure your class program-- in a large block of time, or spread out over a period of time? - Will I get to practice in class? If so, how much? - What are the different levels you teach? - How many hours are taught at each level? - How many attunements do you do at each level? - What follow-up support do you offer? - What is your Reiki lineage? - What is the cost of the class? - What is included in tuition of the class?
As always, it is important to connect with the individual who will be teaching you...pay attention to the intuition you are provided with...ask--is this person resonating with me at the heart level? You will always be directed to the right teacher for you, when you are ready for the experience.
QUESTION: What are the typical tuition fees for the varying Reiki levels.
ANSWER: Although there is always variations, which depend on a number of factors, such as where a class is being held, the costs for renting space, advertising, and materials needed to run the class, as well as the length/depth of the class, below is listing of the average tuition fees found in our local area.
Level I: Between $125 - $150 Level III (Part A): Master Practitioner: $300 - $350 Level II: Between $225 - $250 Level III (Part B): Master Teacher: $300- $350
What are the typical length or duration of the average class? Typically the average class is as follows: Level I: 1 full day program Level II; Usually spread out over 2 days, or an evening and full day Level III Master Practitioner: Typically the same length of time as Level II, may be an additional few hours longer Level III Master Teacher: A continuation of Master Practitioner, with an additional day or two
What is your format? My typical class structure is as follows: Level I: 4 weeks, 2 1/2 hour per weekly session Level II: 4 weeks, 3 hours per weekly session Level III Master Practitioner: 6 month apprenticeship Level III Master Teacher: 6 month apprenticeship
Can I audit a class with you? Once you have taken a Reiki class with me, you are free to come back and audit that same level class whenever you wish, as long as there is space in the class, which is usually not a problem.
What type of follow-up support do you provide for those who take classes with you? I am always available to assist with any questions you may have after taking a class, feel free to contact me by phone or email. I have been putting this Reiki Newsletter out for seven years now to help keep people connected, motivated and interested in Reiki. There are 2 reiki shares offered monthly right now as well.
Do you offer any discounts? I offer a referral reward, $25 per paid registrant. Through your referrals, the individual will receive a 30 minute complimentary reiki session once they have signed up and paid for the class and you would receive a $25 credit toward class tuition, which allows you to reduce the rate of tuition.

5. Interesting Websites: http://www.reiki.org/ For those who are new to receiving this newsletter, here is a good site to access. This is William Rand’s website which has a great deal of information about Reiki.
http://www.holistichopeforall.com/ It seems like a lot of practitioners I have spoken with recently are interested in using Reiki with horses or already do so. Here is a good site. I backed tracked to this home page after coming across this great handout showing a horse's chakras. Make sure you check the article Using Reiki to Treat Horses if this is an area of interest for you.
The Forgotten Thymus Gland Free book that can be downloaded about the thymus gland and its role and importance in our health.
The Rock Identification Key If you work with rocks and crystals, this is a good basic site reference.

6. Recommendations: This recommendation is not in regard to reading a book, journal or audio program but is in reference to doing some volunteer Reiki work!
Reiki is such a wonderful modality! It fills me in ways that I have not experienced from other techniques, modalities, or experiences. It may not be this way for everyone...we each have our unique signature in this life, so we are drawn to different things with varying degrees of passion. But if this is your passion, I suggest doing some volunteer Reiki.
Volunteer reiki can be done on people, animals, situations, etc. Select an area you are comfortable with and look for opportunities to be of service. This past weekend I participated in a volunteer day of giving reiki to women at the Northampton Township's day for Women's Relaxation. Along with 4 other wonderful practitioners, we gave 15-20 minute table sessions to the women who signed up to try reiki. We did this for several hours, without really taking any breaks, yet by the end of the afternoon, I was feeling very energized...one of those things that happens when you channel reiki rather than use your own energy.
It was so inspiring to see how many women were interested in trying this out, a refreshing attitude from the sometimes unusual stares one gets when mentioning the word reiki. My feeling is if I can assist just one individual in connecting with this gentle healing approach, if it resonates with them, then I have done a good thing. Each of us together, doing these good things, helps bring about peace, harmony, and balance to the world.
Volunteer Opportunity: 3rd Sunday of the Month, I will be hosting a Healing Circle at Seeds for Change prior to the Practitioner's Reiki Share. Anyone wishing to assist with this, please let me know. First Healing Circle: Feb 17, 1:00PM- 2:30 PM.

7. Working with Others: I have posted Hering's Law of Cure several times throughout the years in this newsletter, but each month we have new readers and it is important to understand, so I'm posting it once again...
Hering's Law of Cure By Dr Roger Schmidt Source
Dr C. Hering...Hering's law of cure has been verified by not only homeopaths but also ayurveds, naturopaths and energy healers. This suggests that the body is subject to certain laws that governs its working as a whole. I have dealt with this cursorily in my article, "The Dynamics of Disease", which is available in the net at http://www.jcrows.com/ayurvedic.html .
Herings law, in a nutshell, stipulates that there is a DIRECTION OF CURE. With this knowledge the physician can be sure whether he has really benefited the patient or only made him worse despite a reduction in the severity of symptoms. Says Hering, the cure proceeds;
1. From top to bottom. A symptom or a set of symptoms may slide down. What appeared on the head may go to the chest, then the abdomen, then the legs before going away entirely.
2. From within to outward. The problem may leave the innards of the body and surface on the skin, nails, hair, and/or mucous membranes before disappearing. If the patient has an ulcer in the abdomen, during the treatment if the patient suddenly develops a profuse discharge of any of the mucous membranes, or develops a scary rash, then the direction is towards a cure. In such a case the subsequent acute manifestation should not be disturbed and must be allowed to take its course.
3. Backwards in time. The present symptom may be replaced by what has taken place prior to it, moving backwards the way it developed. For example a kidney failure patient may go back to his cardiac manifestation, then the severe abdominal complaints he may have suffered earlier may resurface. Then the eczema or psoriasis that was suppressed earlier may recur which when treated holistically, or by continuing the present method of treatment will cure the patient.
4. From the more important organ to a less important one. As stated above the affected kidney may heal with the disease going to the heart, then the liver, the abdomen, then the skin before affecting a cure. A mental symptom like anxiety may be relieved as the disease takes hold of a physical organ and then moving on from the more vital organ to the less important one.
A word of caution here. Merely going to a practitioner who uses holistic remedies will not result in a cure as stated above. The practitioner must be aware of the DYNAMICS OF HEALING and must be a master in both the philosophy, art and the techniques of his science of healing. Both philosophy and practice must travel hand in hand. During the course of treatment the experienced physician enters the realm of the patient and both get transported to a plane which facilitates the healing. The intuition of the doctor and the expression of the patient as to what ails him are the fundamentals without which cure is an illusion.
Disease per se may not be bad in a healthy person. The law of cure is not peculiar to the physicians efforts but is characteristic of the body's function. An accumulation of waste in the body may find relief from a sudden diarhhoea or a profuse cold. At such times rest and a simple diet will relieve the symptoms and the patient emerges feeling better than ever, cured of ennui. An emergency may thus be averted by the action of the body alone. What ought to be treated and what may grow worse from an external intrusion is a decision that only a knowledgeable and sincere physician well versed in the art of healing can make.
Detoxification is the primary aim of the body. Detoxification is the primary aim of the health conscious individual and the trained physician. The aim is the same, only the practices resorted to may be different. The body-mind energy complex is the best healer and its collective role should be a subject of close scrutiny for every physician.

9. Tips & Tidbits:
60 Ways to Heal Your Life… From Lynda Field’s book Each month one of Lynda’s suggestion is included:
Suggestion 25: Remember: Be Here Now It's Saturday morning, a day off, time to go shopping. As you get in the car one of the children starts complaining. "Be quiet we must go shopping." Then the baby cries, you are getting uptight. Your partner starts yelling. "Oh stop yelling, he's only a baby." things are getting very tense...STOP! Do you recognize this sort of scene? Substitute any situation where your well-formed plans aren't working. Don't keep bashing on in the face of such resistance...stop and recognize the moment. Consciously place yourself into the present moment. Let go of thoughts about the past or the future and appreciate and act in the NOW.
If you get so organized and together that you are busy living in the future or you are rushing to keep track of time then you are missing the true pleasure of the moment. Whenever you feel that your life is running out of control, stop and say to yourself, "Remember, be here now!" This doesn't mean that you have to let go of everything.
Sort out the babies and then go shopping. If the telephone rings then answer it (it's happening in the moment). Make that appointment for three weeks' time (you make it in the moment and in three weeks time you will keep the appointment in the moment).
The power is always in the moment. Stop reading and recognize the moment, feel the now. "Later" never actually exists because we are only ever really conscious in the present moment and "later" always lies in the future.
The following affirmation will help you to stay in the present and to appreciate this precious moment in your life:
AFFIRMATION: I accept the here and now fully as it is, right at this moment.
Next Month: Suggestion 26: Identify and Eliminate Unnecessary Stressors ................................................................................................................................
The Next Step Here is a short channelled writing I did last summer...as I was going through my journal pages I came across it and it held alot of meaning for me...maybe it will resonate with you as well...Susan
The Next Step The evolution of being is being. This simple statement brings into light that which is. Trying to uncover a bigger broader truth is like looking for a certain grain of sand on the beach. All the grains are the same.
Go forth and find the being you are. You needn’t look under rocks, in the forest, or in books. You find the being that you are by going within and connecting to the greater source that flows through you at all times.
The source is magnificent and without words of description. The source is you. The source is all that surrounds you. The source is those you love, those you like, those you dislike, those you can’t bear the sight of…There is no discrimination, the source is ALL.
When you reach the state of being you are vibrating at your highest level. This state allows you to express the truest part of yourself. This essence then expands outward to reach and affect the entire environment. Once you step into this space you recognize it by the way it feels and the way you feel. As you become more aware of this feeling you will return to this space for longer and longer periods of time and it will be an easier shift, to the point that it is instantaneous.
Alignment is the space of perfection within…it opens the doors to greater experiences that yield higher learnings. Alignment is the place where we what to reside for the greater portion of our time because it is our nature state of being.
