Caring Hospice Services
There are many essential roles that hospice volunteers may fulfill. Volunteers may act as
friendly visitors and chat with patients, watch TV together, hold hands or have lunch
together. Many patients enjoy being read to from newspapers, magazines, novels, or the
Bible.
Volunteers often have the opportunity to meet family and friends of the patients and may
provide emotional support for them as well. Volunteers act as members of the hospice
team. They may visit during evening hours and weekends when other staff are not usually
present.
Volunteers are often able to alert staff to patient/family or other needs or issues not
previously discussed with professional staff. While Volunteers are needed in all service
areas in Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, there is an urgent need for
Volunteers in Quakertown, the Pottstown/Schuylkill Valley and Reading/Berks County
areas.
